Re: OpenX upgrade from 2.8.1 to 2.8.4 problems

Dont have a lot of time to search the boards over there, and am only aware of personal encounters or ones I have been contacted to fix.
You may consider as for me and others with the new release, there seems to be a permissions bug built in.
/lib/ox/plugin/PluginManager.php
lines:
52: //define('OX_PLUGIN_DIR_WRITE_MODE', 0755); /*correct for shared, commented out*/
53: define('OX_PLUGIN_DIR_WRITE_MODE', 0777);
lib/OA/Upgrade/EnvironmentManager.php
Line:
238: $recurseWritable = false;
throws to screen: "openx file permission errors detected. these may impact the accurate delivery of your ads, see the debug.log file for the list of unwritable files"
No idea exactly what you experienced, however it may be possible if incorrect permissions, or OpenX believes they are incorrect, they wont be moved.
I do believe also somewhere over there someone said remove and re install all plugins. Seems logical and a fix for permissions problems.
If you like you can email me a copy of your db, out of curiosity I will try a upgrade here, and email it back if successful, if not I will have a better understanding of the problem perhaps. No fee.
The latest package can be downloaded from your purchase link for up to 12 months after purchase, up to 20 times. If you need more than 20 downloads let me know.

Still very curious. What openx upgrade issue did you encounter?
Here's a link to a post about the issue on the openx forum
Upgrade 2.8.0 > 2.8.4, One or more plugin files couldn't be located, check the install.log
(my username is Daniel B). As the guy says there are a number of similar looking problems described in other threads.
Anyway, with no solution to the 2.8.1 upgrade in site, I've decided to have a crack at installing this on 2.8.1. How do I get hold of the latest update?

Thanks for this. By the time this patch was out I had uninstalled RevMax before doing the upgrade as per your advice. So before I reinstall it and go through all the steps required to set it up - can you please confirm that this update you speak of specifically fixes this issue with the 'prepend' column. I like to help when I can but at the moment I don't have the time to assist with testing this product. So if you aren't sure then let me know. Should I wait for the 'next release' you are speaking of instead?
Yes again, RevMax banner functions now rely on OpenX functions and not unique scripting.
This was the original design when I began RevMax with phpadsnew some years ago, and OpenX decided to rename functions regularly so it was unreliable. I wrote custom scripting, and of course they then decided to change the database with every minor release.
I am hoping now with the plugin interface, perhaps they wont be in such a rush to change and rename functions, and actually let people build dependable plugins.
You can Wait if you like. If you have data, the upgrade process works and all data is saved, so you should suffer no loss. If you still have it installed, simply go to plugins, and import code. This will update the necessary files. If new, simply install.
I am totally redoing RevMax now, to attempt again to make it forward compatible, and in so doing, adding new features such as delivery limitations. This is expected out within the next week. The upgrade process should be seamless, and so not an issue, with any currently installed versions of RevMax.
Still very curious. What openx upgrade issue did you encounter?

Just so you know I tried upgrading to 2.8.4 but it didn't work. The problem I experienced seems to be fairly common on the opens forums but nobody seems to have a reliable solution. So it looks like I'm stuck with 2.8.1 for a while. Any chance you could try and get RevMax to work on that version?
What OpneX uprade problem is that? Perhaps I can be of some help.
FIXED: I should have notified you, the last update did fix this issue.
http://btdsoft.com/banners-compatibility-resolved/
I just always assume people will see the updates when they log into
RevMax within OpenX.
The next release will fix any multiple payment script versions.
Hopefully this will end any past / future compatibility issues.
Let me know if you need help.

Thanks for you quick reply. As previously stated we are using OpenX v2.8.1. It is a standard installation and has not been upgraded from an earlier version.
Looking through 'etc/tables_core.xml' in the installation files indicates to me that there isn't a field called 'prepend' in the table 'ox_banners' in 2.8.1 but there is in 2.8.4. You may want to look into this to ensure your product is fully compatible with 2.8.1 as your promotional material states. Taking this into consideration it seems like the best option for us would be to upgrade to 2.8.4 which should introduce the required field and generally bring us up to date. Can you let me know if you think this might cause any problems with RevMax?

Sorry, it was late, when I replied, should have read slower, I thought you said 2.8.4.
I agree and have been feveriously working for some time now to make the package backwards and forwards compatible, and work with the plugin upgrade script. OpenX just did release some pointers on making this work.
Upgarde: It should not cause any problems, again sorry, just one of me, lots of files. I do believe someone did comment that a upgrade to .1 caused a break. As a new purchase, perhaps backup RevMax info, if you have any, uninstall, do upgrade, then reinstall.
Again, sorry for the hassle, Ill try to read instead of scan next time, if you need any mods to make it work as advertised, just let me know and Ill make sure your have what you paid for.

I've PM'd you the details of an advertiser account to verify this error.
Got it thanks.
Not sure what modified version of OpenX you use, or why I am not allowed to see the database, however with OpenX 2.8 the field "prepend" is valid in the sql and php, as it is a valid table field within OpenX. Perhaps your OpenX database has been modified at some point and the field removed from the table ?
Depending on your specific needs you may wish to run
Code:
ALTER TABLE `ox_banners` ADD `prepend` TEXT `ext_bannertype`
On your OpenX database and replace the missing field. If perhaps your modified version doesn't support this, you can tell me what your database looks like and I can make a script just for you.
Let me know.

RevMax4.0.2, OpenX v2.8.1 running on Apache 2.0.63, PHP 5.2.6 and MySQL 5.0.89-community.
Thanks for your answer to the other questions.
You said you had an error, I am still thinking you might want me to verify this ?
Again please forward an active advertisers login info and phpmyadmin or other login.
If not please respond stating it works.
Thanks

Please tell me what version of RevMax you are using, and what version of OpenX, so I can have a look at the cause of the error. Perhaps incompatible versions as the error is not present in the latest package, or OpenX version.
demo
user: adviews pass : password
ads delivered over a set time ?: Yes with RevMax you can now set the subscription variables to limit the amount of views and deliver them across a period of time. So if you created a adviews package of 100000 adviews and set the subscription variables to 1, M, or one month, the adviews are split evenly over the 31 day period 100000 / 31 = 3226 (rounded up) adviews a day.
This however only works when setting the campaign priority making it a contract campaign.By leaving the priority at 0 and setting the ad package (campaign) weight, the campaign will be a remnant campaign, and eligible to compete in the OpenX marketplace.
The same applies on remnant campaigns, all information is entered, however the limit does not take affect unless the campaign is switched to a contract campaign.
The ad price is also calculated and split by RevMax , to show within the campaign and reports the actual cpm or cpc rate being charged (earned). This holds true with subscriptions also, however the revenue reports will show a daily tenancy rate.
Ad types: RevMax currently supports all image ads such as flash. It doesn't allow for text ads of any sort at this point.
Please make sure you are using the latest version of OpenX and RevMax combined and report back on the problem. If you like you can pm server details and I can have a peek.

Unknown column 'prepend' in 'field list'

I've just installed RevMax and am trying to test the advertiser experience in the paypal sandbox. So I've signed up as an advertiser and gone through a dummy paypal run. So I sign in as the customer to our system and it all looks OK. However when I go to upload a banner I get the following message "Unknown column 'prepend' in 'field list'". I'm not sure if this is installation related or just a bug.
While I'm here I have a few other questions
- Can you set packages to be delivered over a specified tie period? (i.e. 1 month)
- Can the advertiser use Flash Ads or HTML ads?
